I rarely start with a drawing. Not for this one either.

Dive Into the Ocean began the way most of my work does — with material in my hands and a wall in front of me. 6 metres wide. Wool and other natural fibers, texture that asks to be touched before it asks to be understood.

I've stood in front of coral reefs in three different oceans. What I remember isn't the colour — it's the feeling of being surrounded by something alive that doesn't need your attention to exist. That's what I was chasing here.

Spaces that hold that kind of presence don't look impressive. They feel different. That's the only distinction that matters to me.
